Prostate MRI at NCI

Despite recent improvements in the detection and treatment, prostate cancer continues to be the most common malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality in American men. Over the last decade, researchers began looking at MRI as a way of improving the early diagnosis of prostate cancer. This paper reviewed prostate MRI studies at the molecular imaging clinics at National Cancer Institute (NCI) focusing on technical developments on Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE) MRI, Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) and fast T2 mapping to serve as a reference for setting up clinical prostate MR protocols, therefore extend the application of MRI from major research centers to routine clinics.
